Who is Rowby?

Ever since I was a kid I was interested in comedy. I would roll on the floor laughing when watching old “Laurel and Hardy” comedies — and later as a teenager I would also roll over the floor laughing when I first discovered Soupy Sales. And at school I was the funny kid. That’s how I usually made friends. All of my long-time friends seemed to have the same thing in common: laughter and always joking with each other. And I was always interested in getting into the entertainment field, one way or another. I recall once at elementary school I was with a friend and told him that I wanted to be a television star — and I asked him if he wanted to be a television star. He said “No”. I was surprised because I thought everyone wanted to be a television star.

My parents, especially my father, was worried about the path I had chosen. He was a hard-working man who spent many long hours making money to provide for his family. He wanted me to have a profession like a lawyer or doctor — someone who could make plenty of money. But I was not interested in that. He was clearly worried about my future. However, that all changed when I got my first comedy writing job at the number one comedy series, the hugely popular comedy show of its day “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In”. Both my father and mother were able to breath a sigh of relief and would brag to everyone that I was their son the comedy writer.

More to come. I have to get some work done!
